What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program created to help adults and seniors with no private dental insurance. The dental coverage includes not only preventive care, like exams and cleanings, but also major dental procedures such as crowns, dentures, and oral surgeries.
At Riverbend Square Dental, we walk our patients through the entire CDCP process, step by step, helping you access the dental care you need as quickly as possible.

Who Can Get the CDCP for Seniors and Adults?

To be eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, you must:
  • Not have private dental insurance coverage
  • Be a resident of Canada for tax purposes
  • File an annual tax return
  • Have an adjusted family net income of less than CAD 90,000
The program first launched for seniors in the latter part of 2023. As of June 1, 2025, all uninsured adults currently living in Canada are eligible for CDCP coverage.

To What Degree Will the CDCP Provide Coverage?

The coverage you receive is dependent on your household income:
  • Under CAD 70,000 → 100% covered by the government; you pay nothing
  • CAD 70,000 – CAD 79,999 → 60% covered; you pay 40%
  • CAD 80,000 – 89,999 → 40% covered; you pay 60%
This sliding scale may be helpful to think about the fees that patients would have to pay on top of any fees not fully covered by the CDCP fee schedule.
Please note:
  • These percentages apply to the CDCD established fee. If your dentist’s usual fees exceed those, you will be responsible for the excess.
  • Some services will require preauthorization before coverage is confirmed

What Services are included with the CDCP?

The CDCP provides coverage for clinically necessary services, including
Exams, preventive cleanings, x-rays, fluoride, and sealants
fillings, extractions, and root canals
gum treatments
Crowns, dentures, and implants (may require preauthorization)
Oral surgery and sedation
Limited ortho for medical necessity (starting mid-2025)
Our Riverbend Square Dental team will assist you every step of the way.
